ARLEN HILLIUS


 

 

Arlen G. Hillius, “Poncho”, 73, Medina, ND passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 at his farm near Medina.

Arlen was born August 10, 1949 to Theodore E. Jr. and Emma L. (Schatz) Hillius in Jamestown, ND. Arlen was raised on the family farm south of Medina where he resided at the time of his death.

Arlen graduated from Medina High School in 1967 and from Capital Commercial College in 1968 with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration.

On June 20, 1969 he married the love of his life, Irene Brilz. They have 4 daughters who are his pride and joy.

Following his college graduation, Arlen worked for Dakota National Bank and Northwest Computer Service in Bismarck. In 1973 Arlen and Irene moved to Harvey, ND where he was the office manager of Bentz Implement. In 1977 Arlen and Irene moved back to the family farm where they farmed, had dairy cows for many years and later beef cows. He also worked part-time hauling fertilizer for Farmers Union Oil in Medina, Jamestown and for Allied Agronomy in Gackle. Arlen was a farmer at heart and the farm was always where he wanted to be.

Arlen was a member of St. Mary’s church in Medina and in the past has served on the Chicago Township board and Medina- Jamestown Farmers Union Oil board.

Arlen was a very social person and was well known for his birthday calls, hearty laugh, humor and jokes.

Honored to have shared Arlen’s life is his wife of 53 years, Irene, his daughters and son-in-laws Christina (Dwight) Dockter of Medina, ND, Carmen (Leon) Mittleider of Tappen, ND, Chantel (Tracy) Kramlich of Bismarck, ND and Cassie Hillius of Maple Grove, MN. Grandchildren: Bailey March, Cheyenne Ketterling, Cierra Hauck, Dalton Dockter; Caitlin, Logan & Shayne Mittleider, Courtney Cunningham; Jayden, Lucas & Aiden Kramlich; Sophia Bergh; and 7 Great-Grandchildren. Sister Eloise (James) Kleven, brother Stanley (Marge) Hillius, sister Shelly (Michael) Fercho, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arlen was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Bonnie Lou, brother Jay Steven, sister and brother-in-law Shirley and George Newbury.

Visitation for Arlen was 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm, Sunday, March 19 at the funeral home.

Funeral Service was held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 20 at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Windsor, ND. Burial will be in the Medina City Cemetery at a later date.
